RACE Regional Round#1, April 29-30, Shannonville Motorsports Park
This weekend marked the first RACE series regional round at Shannonville Motorsports Park near Belleville, Ontario.
Vicki arrived in Shannonville late Friday evening off a flight direct from Hong Kong. Battling jetlag, she was not sure if she would race the weekend. Her Wheelsport Honda CBR600RR had a few technical issues that needed to be sorted out, so she was not able to test the new bike but instead used the back-up bike-- the 2003 Honda CBR600RR. Vicki's goal for the weekend was to complete some lap times and get in some good practice sessions. She entered three events-- the Womens Open, Womens Supersport and Novice 600 races. Despite her jetlag, Vicki was quite pleased with her practice times on Saturday. The Saturday afternoon qualifiers did not go quite as smoothly as morning practice. During the second Women’s qualifier, Vicki experienced some technical difficulties as her rear wheel axle came lose during the qualifier, causing the bike to lose control and the rear wheel to become almost completely disengaged from the bike. Vicki managed to maintain control of the bike and was able to ride it to pit lane to safety. Unfortunately she did not finish the qualifier and was not able to compete in the Novice 600 qualifier later that day. With the axle issue resolved thanks to Brad Clarke from Compulsion Racing, Vicki was back on the track again by Sunday morning. Her goal was to compete and gain some track time in all three races Sunday afternoon. She was very pleased with her positions and her lap times in all three races...finishing ahead of a number of new novice riders in the Women’s categories, and managing a mid-pack finish in the Novice600 race.
Vicki was happy the weekend was over so she could go home and catch up on some rest! Special thanks to the whole team for all the help and support this weekend!
